About Wood Ireland / About our Wood

Woodireland specialise in eco Friendly Fuel Products and are able to give you a choice of two finest hardwoods carefully chosen by us. Our web site will advise you on the various types available or click onto our product page to find out more information on the particular types of wood that we find suitable for your wood burning stoves and fireplaces. In 2014 we started production on our own branded compressed hardwood logs. Our logs are manufactured 100% in Ireland so why not view our onlinevideo to see for yourself the benefits of our eco friendly wood briquettes.  Each type of wood has its own characteristics and culture waiting to be explored by you!

Benefits of kiln Dry Firewood

The benefits of hardwood for firewood are greater heat output as well as longer and slower burn time which makes buying hardwood much more cost effective. Hardwood takes longer to growth but has a higher wood density, giving you more value for money. Unlike most other fuels, wood truly is, a Carbon Neutral fuel, in that the carbon released when burned is offset by the tree's natural lifecycle.

Additionally, wood under fire has the most impressive flame picture of all, is clean to handle and easy to store, leaves very little ash and does not corrode your stove and flue like turf or coal.

Wood is better in environmental terms as the amount of  carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere is approximately the same as that absorbed by a tree during growth. It is also a renewable resource, particularly when its derived from plantations and cultivated woodland.

For optimum we recommend you use kiln dried wood with moisture below 20% as this will not only give you twice the output of freshly felled timber but will also help avoid the build up of tar in your flue. Furthermore, hardwood logs are better as they have increased calorific value of softwood for the same volume.

4 Good reasons to Choose Fuel from WoodIreland

  1. Quality hardwood with below 20% moisture
  2. Fast & efficient nationwide delivery
  3. Order securely online 24/7
  4. Easy to manage pallet sizes

Stove Efficiency:
The extra logs required (possibly more that 3 times as many) to produce the equilivant heat output, are a considerable waste of money, labour & transport. while open fires have a strong attraction and may look good, they are extremely inefficient (25%) compared to a new modern typical stove of (80%)

Wood is not polluting!
Wood differs from other fossil such as coal, gas and oil because it is part of the carbon/Carbon neutral cycle. Although the fossil fuels produce CO2, trees absorb CO2 and store it as carbon which makes up half the weight of a tree.

When wood is burnt in the correct way, it is no more detrimental to the environment than when a tree dies naturally. Burning wood is in balance with nature, is part of the natural cycle and makes no contribution to the greenhouse effect. The CO2 that is released during burning,  is in turn used for trees to grow, in addition to other nutrients from the ground and sunlight, which allows them to produce air. Using wood for heating is thus completely environmentally friendly, but certain conditions must be met. First, you must choose a good quality fire or stove. A stove or fire with a high output and relatively clean exhaust is environmentally friendly.

All efficient wood fires and stoves satisfy these demands. In addition, you should pay attention to the capacity of your fire or stove. An appliance with a capacity that is too large (for the room it has to heat) will not be able to burn full out, which results in an incomplete combustion. And finally, it is important that new woods are planted in a planned fashion. Sustainable forestry makes wood an inexhaustible source of energy.

Hardwoods provide more heat than softwoods with the same volume, but per kilogram, the different wood types will give off the same heat, and softwoods are often cheaper to buy. Softwoods are the perfect firewood at the start and end of the winter when it is less cold.

They provide a cleaner burn without making the house into a sauna. It will burn quicker, but it can be extended by burning with a hardwood log.
